Thompson’s Gallery presents the latest solo exhibition by the unbelievably talented Tony de Wolf, featuring all new hyperreal still life paintings by the Belgian contemporary master.

‘Beauty in Detail’ whisks viewers along an astonishing and mouth-watering experience, courtesy of the artist’s paintbrush. Tony de Wolf trained under Willem Dolphyn for seven years in Antwerp, perfecting his technique in the Flemish still life tradition. The artist is credited with breathing fresh life and perspective into one of fine art’s most storied disciplines, dazzling audiences with his precision and adding touches of playfulness when constructing his table setting compositions.

Tony de Wolf has been a popular feature of Thompson’s artist roster since his debut solo exhibition over fifteen years ago, and remains a fixture on art fair stands in London and abroad for the gallery. A key element of attraction for viewers new and familiar, is de Wolf’s ability to grip attention and invite a closer look –until face to face with the oil itself.

Michael Adamson: Northern Vistas

MICHAEL ADAMSON: NORTHERN VISTAS
23 June 2021 - 10 July 2021

London

Canadian abstract painter Michael Adamson makes a highly anticipated return to London, unveiling a stunning new body of work. 'Northern Vistas' sees the artist consider a variety of topics within one solo exhibition- resulting in a range of sizes, palettes, and techniques.

Adamson is the product of a trifecta of creative institutions- Ryerson University, Toronto (1991) Vancouver's Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design (1993-97), & Universität Kunsthochschule Kassel (1996). Combining his formal training with an early career in video and photography, Adamson emerged with a unique and undeniably enticing painting style. At the centre of his works is the convergence of personal expression and nods to cultural history. Adamson uses his paintings as a kind of shorthand, encompassing a range of the artists responses to observations, ideas and emotions.

Tyrone Deans: Systemic Freedom

TYRONE DEANS: SYSTEMIC FREEDOM
18 May 2021 - 5 June 2021

London

Thompson’s Gallery London proudly presents the debut solo exhibition of mixed media painter Tyrone Deans, 'Systemic Freedom' from 18 May - 5 June 2021.

Deans is a chartered architect balancing a fine art practice from various studios between Jamaica, Sweden and England. Born into a Jamaican family, Deans' work is deliberately material and inquisitive, exploring concepts of identity, culture, and class with every layer applied to the surface. Deans wields mixed media purposefully, integrating elements such as Ghanaian Kente fabric and found historical documents to drive conversation beyond formalism. As colourful as they are complex, Deans’ paintings are inviting and open-ended by nature acknowledging that history is formed by both those who have power and those without, and that both sides are of equal importance to remember and understand.

Patsy McArthur: Flux

PATSY MCARTHUR: FLUX
27 April 2021 - 15 May 2021

London

'Flux' speaks directly to McArthur’s interest in exploring the grace and power of movement through still images. Her depictions of figures in motion convey a sense of energy or potential energy through a static drawing.

Using a monochrome palette, MacArthur strips down her images by removing the seduction of colour and demanding a focus on the content of her drawing. Throughout her career McArthur has worked with freerunners, acrobats and even trampolinists, successfully capturing their motion within her work.

Paul Wright

PAUL WRIGHT "PROFILES"
24 February 2021 - 13 March 2021

London

Paul Wright in widely known for this dynamic and emotive portraits since he was shortlisted for the BP Portrait award in 2006 and later in 2015 with his portrait of Simon Armitage CBE.

For this exhibition Paul has entirely focus on just twelve powerful heads no bigger than sixteen inches square of people who have influenced and shaped his lives.

'Profiles' is a survey of likeness, vaunting the mystique of anonymity in a time where humans increasingly wield their image for personal, capital and social gain.

Paring back the concept of portraiture, Wright poses questions about the modern practice of portrayal. What motivates the depiction and dissemination of likeness today? What control is taken back or conceded, by recording likeness through analogue means in lieu of Smartphones and digital cameras?
