Marcel Dyf

Born in Paris on 7th October 1899, Marcel Dyf started his career in engineering but by his early twenties he had decided to become an artist. Completely self-taught, the Impressionist and Post Impressionist movements in Paris and Normandy where he spent his holidays, greatly influenced his painting. He bought a studio and moved to Arles in Provence, where the landscapes provided him with inspiration. He only returned to Paris some thirteen years later in 1935. During World War II he joined the Resistance and was based in Correze.

In 1950, Dyf acquired a studio in Cannes and had been exhibiting in some of the major cities in France. In 1954, he met wife Claudine, who was 36 years his junior and they eventually married in 1965. She devoted her life to travelling with him, searching continually for new scenes to paint.

Marcel Dyf was a member of L'Ecole Francais and his constant successful exhibitions meant his art soon became known outside of France. Dyf died on 16th September 1985.
