Exhibition Dates, 7th - 27th November 2011
James Fullarton is one of Scotland’s leading contemporary painters and has been exhibiting at Thompson’s Gallery since the 1990s. Fullarton’s skilled fluid brushwork, broad palette and strong colour mean he can be described as a modern day Colourist regarded for his consistently high quality of painting.
Born in Glasgow, Fullarton studied at the Glasgow School of Art from where he graduated in 1969. He has since worked as a professional artist based in South Ayrshire. He has exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts. Examples of his work can be found in private and corporate collections worldwide.
Famed for his still-life, en-plain air landscape, harbour paintings and as a skilled portrait artist it is safe to say Fullarton’s subject matter is varied.
In this wonderful exhibition of poppy still-lifes, summer and winter Ayrshire landscapes, yachts and other typical Fullarton studies, we see his interest in the effects of light. Prominent large brushstrokes applied vigorously to the canvas and directly in front of the subject to create spontaneous, bright, expressive works revealing his personal interpretation of each subject.
It is Fullarton’s continued exploration and development of these principles combined with a brilliant eye for colour and uncompromising standards of quality which bring us to this, his seventh solo exhibition.
Thompson’s Gallery are delighted to welcome back James Fullarton for his seventh solo exhibition and look forward to presenting his new works.
