Mona Jupp was born and educated in Sweden, continuing her art education in Britain including study under S. Clifford Smith, one of the Great Bardfield group of artists. She has lived in Suffolk for over twenty years.
Much of Jupp’s earlier work was inspired by the northern forests and the sometimes almost mystical natural remains of more primitive times. In more recent paintings, references to nature are still present, but form, pattern and atmosphere are foremost. She works in oil, acrylic and mixed media.
After moving to East Anglia, she first exhibited in the 1970s in mixed exhibitions in Colchester and at the Deben Gallery, Woodbridge. Other exhibitions have included those at the Steeple End Gallery, Halesworth, the Laing Competition in Ipswich and the Mall Galleries, London, the Boundary Gallery, Cransford, and with the Ipswich Art Society. In 1991 Mona Jupp was the prizewinner of the Laing Competition, Eastern Region.
