Peter Howson was born in 1958 in London and studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1975-1977 and 1979-1981 under Alexander Moffat. In 1985 he was Artist-in-Residence at St Andrews and in 1993 was commissioned as an official war artist in Bosnia.
A painter in oils, Peter Howson has exhibited widely in Europe and the USA; group exhibitions include, “The Vigorous Imagination” at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art at the Edinburgh Festival in 1987. His work is also represented in collections including the Tate Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, New York and Oslo Museum of Modern Art.
