Peter Kelly

Peter Kelly paints interiors, landscapes and still life always display an exquisite mastery of light and shade and demonstrate meticulous austere draughtsmanship.

The preference of Peter for a calm tonal palette and mastery of contrasted light gives his paintings an aura of quiet contemplative restraint reminiscent of the Dutch and Scandinavian Schools of Art.

Peter Kelly was born in 1931. As a young artist Peter was educated at the West Ham School of Art and Technology. Kelly later attended the Central School of Art and Design in London.

In 1982 Peter was elected a full member of the Royal Society of British Artists. In 1995 Peter became a member of the Small Painting Society and in 2007 he was appointed a member of the New English Art Club.

He has exhibited widely, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.  He has also won prizes in national competition on six occasions and has been a finalist in the Hunting Competition five times.  He won the Jeffrey Archer Prize at the RWS Open at Bankside Gallery in 1993.  More recently - in the RBA Annual Exhibitions - his paintings have won the Daler Rowney Award and the Higgs & Hill Bursary, and he has been nominated for the De Lazlo Medal.  At this year’s ‘Discerning Eye’ Exhibition at the Mall Galleries he won the American Express Award.

He has held many successful exhibitions in London and Bath and has one-man exhibitions planned for the next three years in London.
