Originally focusing on more figurative work Peter has begun to develop his landscapes. Scenes from Glasgow and the surrounding landscape as well as Tuscan hillsides and Swiss lakeside settings feature alongside his most recent paintings of Southern California. The seascape, bright sunlight and sandy beaches that create a simplicity of shape and colour inspired these most recent works. Peter has a very high regard for the paintings of the American artist Edward Hopper and it was the mystery and intrigue created by the presence of figures in his compositions which initially attracted him to Hopper’s work. However, he now finds himself drawn more to the drama, simplicity and timelessness of Hopper’s landscapes.
