MICHAEL ADAMSON: NORTHERN VISTAS
23 June 2021 - 10 July 2021
Canadian abstract painter Michael Adamson makes a highly anticipated return to London, unveiling a stunning new body of work. 'Northern Vistas' sees the artist consider a variety of topics within one solo exhibition- resulting in a range of sizes, palettes, and techniques.
Adamson is the product of a trifecta of creative institutions- Ryerson University, Toronto (1991) Vancouver's Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design (1993-97), & Universität Kunsthochschule Kassel (1996). Combining his formal training with an early career in video and photography, Adamson emerged with a unique and undeniably enticing painting style. At the centre of his works is the convergence of personal expression and nods to cultural history. Adamson uses his paintings as a kind of shorthand, encompassing a range of the artists responses to observations, ideas and emotions.
ANNUAL EXHIBITION 2021
12 June 2021 - 4 July 2021
The largest of the galleries exhibitions, after the success of our Modern British exhibition this time the Annual features all contemporary artists, some new, some regulars, some returning faces and some we just cant not include!
15 May 2021 - 6 June 2021
The Modern British Art era began after the first World War, an inherently significant cultural period. This epoch saw the rise of painters and sculptors such as Henry Moore, John Piper, Mary Potter, Terry Frost, Sir Robin Philipson, John Bellany, and Mary Fedden to name a few. This period of artistic output contains a range of style and focus- natural subject matter such as landscape and still life remained emphasised; scenes of leisure and enjoyment were prevalent; and those elevating abstraction saw a surge of interest and legitimacy much in part to Picasso’s growing influence. Thompson’s Gallery has proudly specialised in Modern British Art since its founding in 1982, and invite you to enjoy this expertly selected range of works from this pivotal period.
