8th - 25th November 2017

It is fifteen years since Thompsons Gallery first exhibited the work of Jo Taylor who for the past 25 years has travelled far and wide in a quest to pay homage to her lifelong passion - the horse. In her latest body of work Upon the Wind and Waves, she returns her subject to the wild.

The origins for Upon the Wind and Waves are polar opposites - the inspiration comes from both the slick race meetings in North America and the rugged, untamed landscape of west coast of Ireland. In 2015 Taylor was invited to be Artist in Residence throughout the prestigious Breeders' Cup meeting at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington, Kentucky. However instead of placing these blue blooded Thoroughbreds back on the track, she puts them on the wild Atlantic coast in Connemara where they become haunted, mythical and otherworldly. There are no bells and tannoys here - just the sound of the birds and the wind.

Jo Taylor has exhibited widely throughout the UK, America and Dubai. Her work can be found in many notable private and public collections. In 2012 she became the first female artist to exhibit at The Jockey Club. In 2015 she was Artist in Residence at Keeneland Racecourse throughout the prestigious Breeders' Cup meeting and was shortlisted for the New Light Art Prize.
