Graham Webber was born in Colchester, near to 'Constable Country' in 1980 where he lives with his wife and two young sons. He is a self taught artist who paints in oils and often paints on location around Mersea Island, Flatford and Dedham.
Working quickly, Graham applies broad sweeps of colour and tone to a panel to establish shadows and highlights. More time is then spent adding details and pulling the work together. Graham finds it is necessary to work in this way from life as the light can change so quickly and when it does, the subject becomes completely different. He uses the same approach in the studio by relating back to his plein air painting experiences which helps keep a freshness to his work. Inspiration often comes from the shapes and tones created by light rather than the subject matter itself.
Graham won the Menena Joy Schwabe Memorial Award for an outstanding oil painter at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters annual exhibition in 2012. In 2013 he won the Daler-Rowney Prize, IEA Committee`s Choice at the Institute of East Anglian Artists Exhibition.
Graham's paintings are in many private collections around the UK and some further afield in the USA and his work is in the collection of the Albert Sloman Library, University of Essex. Some of these have included the annual exhibitions of The Royal Society of Marine Artists, The Royal Society of British Artists, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize Exhibition.
Graham is also a member of the of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI) and the Institute of East Anglian Artists (IEA)
