Robert Kelsey DA MUniv PAI FRSA: 30th Anniversary Exhibition
Starting his journey in Glasgow in 1949, Kelsey was schooled at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art. Mentored by renowned teachers like David Donaldson, Alexander Goudie, and JamesRobertson, he then embarked on a journey to mould budding artists as a teacher.
In a turn of events, Kelsey left his teaching career in 1995 to become a full-time
painter. His reputation has soared since then, making him one of Scotland's most sought-after contemporary artists, especially for his breath-taking coastline
depictions. Kelsey's talent lies in his ability to bring his personal experiences to
life on canvas. His Scottish landscapes are a riot of colours, with the Scottish
islands being a fan favourite. His exquisite use of bright colours and pristine
depiction of sand and water makes his work simply irresistible.
Kelsey's paintings are a captivating quest to capture the translucent light around the world. This passion drives him to create diverse paintings where he
masterfully captures the varying light effects. Awarded a Diploma of Artist
Membership for The Paisley Art Institute in 1998 (P.A.I.), a Fellow of the Royal
Society of Arts in 2009 (FRSA), and serving as the President of Glasgow Art
Club, Kelsey's achievements are inspiring. His stunning work graces the
collections of esteemed patrons like the Duke of Bedford, The Fleming
Collection, and Paisley Art Gallery and Museum.
“To reflect on 30 years of a working relationship is a humbling experience.
Robert Kelsey has been a constant throughout all our stages of our gallery. My
admiration is not only focused on the professional but also the personal. The
relationship between my parents and the Kelsey’s has been a huge influence in
my life and has been a guide to successful navigating the dealer and artist
relationship. Robert’s achievement to continue to be one of our most successful
artists is a testament to him and we are incredibly grateful to him and to his wife
Jean. Thank you, Robert.”
