About
Artist Roy Wright is a highly skilled and decorated British draughtsman. Subjects of his large-scale charcoal drawings range from grand, giant Oak trees to sweeping panoramic views of the London riverbank. His incredibly detailed works achieve the articulation of views that mere words fail to describe. Most miraculous of Wright's skill is his natural freehand technique, allowing the artist to complete these massive drawings without tracing, gridding, or any other shortcut to lifelike results. Both Wright's patience and appreciation for the natural world are admirable, and audiences the world over agree that his drawings are nothing short of astounding.
DRAWING STYLE
Roy Wright's subject matter reflects the artist's interest in the duality of the modern world- the strength and grandeur of a mighty, old tree and the sprawling manmade cityscapes of London. The contrast and less obvious links between the two create a strong dialogue within Wright's practice, however both are paid equal attention as the artist renders the most minute details of each composition in charcoal with freehand. Wright's drawings have earned the artist wide acclaim and publication in features for Harper's Bazaar, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Columbia Threadneedle Prize, and many more. Going far beyond the mimetic, Roy Wright finds a way to instill awe in audiences with his execution whilst infusing these accurate drawings with a palpable, living spirit.
