Lindsey Lavender British

Lindsey is an Edinburgh based artist whose practice centres predominantly on painting, with drawing forming a fundamental and underpinning aspect of her work. Through her current practice, she examines the urban environment, seeking out simple, overlooked observations and expressing a fascination with the mundane yet necessary.

Originally trained and practising as an architect, Lindsey’s background has instilled in her a passion for the built environment – both the buildings themselves and the spaces in between. She is intrigued and inspired by the alleyways, structures and derelict places that shape our towns and cities, as much as by the architecture itself.

Her work has been described as possessing a sense of narrative and an atmosphere of calm that draws the viewer in. She explores the rhythm of light and shade, often focusing on seemingly ordinary subjects and presenting the everyday in a new light.

Lindsey grew up in the North of England and originally trained and practised as an architect. About eight years ago she made a decision to change profession, returning to a career in art through study at Edinburgh College of Art.

Lindsey is a multi-award winning artist, maintaining a busy schedule of exhibiting her work throughout the UK and is represented in both public and private art collections.

She is an elected Professional Member of both the Society of Scottish Artists and Visual Arts Scotland.
