Jane Shaw British
Jane Shaw is an award-winning British sculptor based in Dorset, UK. She specialises in animal and wildlife sculptures for inside the home, as well as large scale garden pieces. With a passion for capturing the emotion and movement of her subjects, Jane is highly regarded for her unique style of fluid, spontaneous and strong gestural strokes.
Working in wax for her smaller pieces, or clay and scrim and plaster for her larger sculptures, Jane has her work cast in mainly bronze or bronze resin for some larger pieces. Her focus is to capture the inner character and essence of each animal. Often sculpting directly from life, her artistic philosophy embraces the concept that ‘ugly is beautiful, allowing her to bring a raw, immediate statement of feeling to every piece she creates. Her portfolio of work includes life-size lurchers, boxing hares, larger than life running hares to equestrian and domestic animal commissions.
Her love of sculpture began when she was at school in Gloucestershire where she was very fortunate to have a great sculpture teacher, who saved her from the hot-house of academia and has been a great inspiration even to this day! After completing a degree in History of Art at Manchester University, Jane spent her early career with a London firm of Fine Art Valuers and Consultants travelling and living abroad before returning to London to set up and run a recruitment company, which she then sold after a decade.
Since moving to Dorset in 2013, she has dedicated herself fully to her love for sculpture inspired by her life long interest in wildlife, and the outdoors. Her work has earned several prestigious sculpture awards and is exhibited nationally across the UK and in London. Visitors are welcome to view her permanent display of outdoor sculpture at her Dorset studio and garden.
Her message to herself : ‘I must never tire from looking, observing and learning’.
