A long standing and much loved member of the Thompson’s family, Robert is truly a Thompson’s veteran, having exhibited with the gallery for over three decades.
Born in Glasgow in 1949, Robert studied at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art before beginning a career in teaching. In 1995 he made the decision to dedicate himself fully to painting, and has since built a reputation as one of Scotland’s most admired contemporary landscape painters.
Robert’s work is celebrated for its luminous colour, expansive skies and beautifully observed coastlines. Drawing inspiration from locations such as the Scottish islands, Cornwall and the Mediterranean, his paintings capture the unique clarity and atmosphere of light in different landscapes, a quality that has become a hallmark of his work.
Over the years Robert has become one of our most popular and collected artists, with countless exhibitions and paintings passing through our galleries. His enduring relationship with Thompson’s spanning more than 30 years is a testament not only to his remarkable talent but also to the strong connection he has built with collectors.
