This November, Thompson's Gallery London proudly welcomes back Belgian artist Tony de Wolf for a solo exhibition. Celebrated as a contemporary master of still life, de Wolf honed his craft through seven years of study at Antwerp's Academy of Fine Arts, culminating in mentorship under the legendary Willem Dolphyn.

Blending the elegance of Flemish tradition with a modern twist, his works are renowned for their luminous reflective surfaces and meticulously composed arrangements. This exhibition offers a rare chance to see de Wolf's timeless artistry reimagined for the 21st century.

A true craftsman, Tony works in delicate layers of thinned paint to achieve a luminous surface. He renders each subject with exquisite fidelity, embracing their flaws: a bruised pear, a chip in porcelain, a scratch on silver, a faint mark on fabric. These quiet imperfections suggest a life lived and lend every painting an extra dimension of meaning and pleasure.

Tony de Wolf continues to have a fresh approach in his presentation and selection of subjects.

Style

Tony de Wolf brings a certain coolness to his still life paintings, echoing the mood of Morandi's arrangements, of whom the artist is a longstanding admirer. De Wolf also pays sufficient homage to the seventeenth century Dutch masters, with a painstaking eye for detail and commitment to perfection. The artist constantly changes perspective and composition from painting to painting, a reminder of his zeal for new challenges. With each body of work produced, de Wolf further cements himself as a leader and innovator in the still life concentration.
